About Chalet Joubarbe ...
With spectacular views overlooking the pistes and the mighty summits around, you won't find a better base for your Alpine holiday, whatever the time of year you choose to visit
Once you are here, just park up the car and forget it! Chalet Joubarbe is on the edge of the village of Chinaillon (300m), so it's just a short stroll to fetch fresh bread from the boulangerie in the morning or for a tasty local meal in the evening. Le Grand Bornand / Chinaillon resort has a Famille Plus rating, which means there is always something going on to keep the kids busy.
The chalet itself has been extensively renovated, so you'll have all the comforts of home in this stunning setting, and the owners have an office nearby, so are always available to answer any questions.
Our partner shop Rêves d'Hiver can deliver your skis to the chalet, come to the property to help you choose your equipment or even pick you up and drive you to their shop to benefit from their professional advise. Discounts and free ski store available.
The property ...
The large light-filled living area on the first floor of Chalet Joubarbe makes the most of the fabulous views, and opens on to a large sunny terrace so you can get even closer to the mountains.
There’s room for more than one chef in the well-equipped kitchen, so you can share the cooking before all sitting down to eat at the huge dining table. After dinner, retire to the cosy leather sofas where you can watch a film on the big screen TV complete with surround sound or enjoy the night sky from the furnished terrace.
If you'd rather, you could play a game of table football or read on the mezzanine, or just plan the next day in the beautiful Aravis region around the fire.
With five bedrooms and three bathrooms set over three floors, there’s plenty of room for up to 13 people - and possibly two other guests if needed! There are two double bedrooms and a twin room on the first floor, where you will also find a shower room and a utility room. On the top floor, one room has a double bed, a single bed and a pair of bunk beds while the other has three single beds. There's also a shower room on this floor as well as the games room.
About the area ...
It’s just a 700m walk from Chalet Joubarbe to the ski lift, but if you’d rather save your energy for the slopes, the ski bus stops at the end of the drive every 15 minutes.
With your Aravis ski pass, you’ve got all the Lake Annecy ski resorts at your disposal - more than 200km of perfect pistes. Even closer is a great sledge run and the start of the cross-country ski piste. Beginners in this sport will love the nearby Evo Nordic Park, which has a circuit featuring a variety of terrains, while boarders will appreciate the Snowpark.
Non-skiers can go ice-skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
At the end of a busy day, head back to your cosy chalet, hang up wet clothes in the drying room ready for another day, and relax in the sauna.
In the summer, children will enjoy playing in the play park with swings, a climbing wall, slides etc which is shared with children staying at three chalets owned by the same owners. A network of walking and biking trails cover the mountains around Chalet Joubarbe, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office in Chinaillon.
No doubt you'll manage to get close to local mountain goats and groundhogs around the nearby Colombière pass! There’s a fantastic swimming pool complex in Le Grand Bornand, with a restaurant and grassy areas for picnics.
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby.
The medieval town of Annecy is a must for a day out, whatever the season. It offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, and Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for watersports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
August sees the International Children’s Festival in Le Grand Bornand - a week of puppet shows, circus acts and workshops, with a grand firework finale. You’re in the heart of Reblochon country, so on your travels don’t forget to pick up some of this delicious cheese from a local farm or market!
If you would like to explore the Aravis mountains and villages in summer or winter, Chalet Joubarbe is a great choice. Check our calendar to see when the chalet is free - we can hold your dates for 24 hours if you need a little more time to make plans. But don't hang around - this is a very popular chalet with our guests.

Honest property review
From the owner
Chalet Joubarbe was in fact the old family home where we both grew up.
Our parents have been welcoming paying guests since 1965 to " Les Congères" [the Snowdrift] , the nearby property which our father built himself, so my sister and I are well acquainted with looking after guests: it's a family tradition!
The property was named Snowdrift because of the vast amounts of snow which used to surround the isolated farms and buildings which were in Chinaillon at that time. We took over the family business a couple of years ago with the idea of upgrading the accommodation on offer and this is what we feel we have achieved.
Chalet Joubarbe was in fact the old family home where we both grew up. We have completely refurnished it and hope that you will really enjoy spending your holiday in the spacious and airy living room which has superb views out onto the pistes.
You can park the car in the parking for your entire holiday, as shops, walking trails and the pistes are just a short walk from the chalet. Also we are close at hand should you have any problems or enquiries.. We look forward to welcoming you.

“A great family week”
We enjoyed a wonderful family holiday in the snow we celebrated our grandsons 18th birthday whilst there. The chalet is in a stunning position and so convenient for all facilities!
Could find no fault to the property which is ideally situated with amazing views.
We would certainly like to return some time in the future.

“A very good holiday”
Our family felt very at ease at Chalet Joubarbe in Chinaillon: great spaces, beautiful view, lovely balconies, good equipment, very comfortable. We really loved the walks from the old village and the Col de la Colombière. Muriel was very helpful and always available to answer our questions.
— Catherine B. May 2019
The location is perfect for great ski holidays. We loved the layout of the rooms, the comfort, the tranquil surroundings and the atmosphere of the resort.
— Jean-Luc C. Mar 2019
“A holiday that surpassed our expectations”
We absolutely loved our holiday at this ski station and Chalet Joubarbe. The welcome was perfect. The chalet met all our expectations - it was quiet, comfortable and the ski storage was very useful. We also loved the table football! The ski station is perfect for children beginning to ski, and we loved the well-organised skiing facilities. The old village is really beautiful, with farms, animals and a well looked-after environment. Local traders are very friendly. Access to Geneva is easy. To sum up: We will be back!
— Nicole S. Feb 2019
“A superb holiday”
We have come back totally enchanted. Comfort, space and the best service. If you've got small children, look out for the slope below the chalet - apart from that, there were no problems!
— Benjamin C. Oct 2018
“A superb holiday”
Thanks to the whole team at Les Congères, who helped us make our family reunion - 40 children and adults in Chalets Meringue, Macaron, and Joubarbe - into a marvellous time. The chalets were clean, well equipped and top of the range (spa, steam room ...). The environment is restful and the panoramic view of the mountains was a big factor in the success of our holiday.
— Christian B. Oct 2018
“A marvellous weekend”
We had a marvellous weekend in this chalet. The comfort, the cosiness, the location - everything worked well, allowing us to make the most of this family holiday.

“A very spacious and peaceful chalet”
We had a really lovely week in your well-equipped property.
— Charlotte B. Aug 2018
“Ideal for families”
We spend an excellent week in Chalet Joubarbe. We were seven adults, three children and two babies. The size of the house meant that there was plenty of room for all of us. We loved the great facilities: spacious bedrooms with televisions; three bath or shower rooms; a magnificent view over the mountainside, quality home cinema (with Bose sound system). The bonuses were the ping pong table and the table football, and particularly the plancha on the terrace! The owners were very helpful, providing a cot and a high chair when we asked for it, as well as giving us a good briefing on the week's activities and some good advice (like telling us that the bus was free). As for the location, we got around almost everywhere on foot or by bus, which was great!
— Anja R. Jul 2018
This chalet works very well for three couples, a family with two children and three friends. There's a large living room, sauna and a very useful ski room, and baby equipment is available too. A Savoyard evening on the ridge after a lift up in the snow plough was really great!Thank you again for this fabulous holiday. The lack of sunshine was made up for by the arrival of the snow.
— Luce K. Jan 2018
It's very spacious and comfortable. We had a great holiday with our friends. Thanks again!

“Fantastic times! Excellent welcome!”
We had really exceptional weather. The chalet is comfortable, with a good use of space (there were 13 of us without any problems) and excellent bed linen. Many thanks for the welcome basket, which we all appreciated. We knew the area well in the snow, it is very different and very beautiful as nature reawakens! Lots of walks.
